ABOUT THE PROJECT
On Friday April 28, 2017, 300 volunteers converged upon Community of Peace Academy to build a brand new playground in a single day, with the support of KaBOOM! and Target. The new playground includes an additional 1000+ square feet of playground equipment, plus a separate adjoining space with adult fitness equipment. We are so proud of this major investment in our school and in our neighborhood community!

ABOUT OUR PARTNERS
KaBOOM! and Target are working together to increase active play for kids nationwide. KaBOOM! is one of the non-profits Target has chosen to support in efforts to make it easier for families and kids to get the physical activity they need. KaBOOM! is the national non-profit dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids, particularly those growing up in poverty in America.
With community volunteers, KaBOOM! and Target team members will help 26 low-income neighborhoods to design, plan and build new playgrounds—including Community of Peace Academy!
Target has been a sponsor of the Play Everywhere Challenge, a national competition aiming to empower cities to turn every day spaces – sidewalks, vacant lots, bus stops, open streets and beyond – into play areas that encourage more families to get active and play together.
Play is a powerful thing that transforms children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally, and socially active. Play can address obesity, improve mental health and wellness and help build family bonds.
Play activities help children create, explore, solve, and imagine—which helps their brain develop, builds important creative thinking and problem-solving skills, and contributes to emotional well-being.
